Fire Risk Assessment
Fire risk assessment is an unregulated business and therefore anyone can set themselves up to conduct such work so before appointing a fire risk assessor, check their qualifications:
1. To perform an assessment an assessor should ideally hold nationally recognised qualifications to diploma level or above (this does not include a one-week course offered by various organisations that is only suitable for undertaking in-house fire risk assessments.)
2. They should have relevant experience, in particular about building regulations for dwelling houses and apartment blocks
3. Be independent to ensure they recommend what is needed, not what they can sell you!
